Course Information
In this 3 hour hands on practical workshop you will learn how to take breathtaking professional multiple light on location portraits.
What is Strobist?
Simply put, its off camera flash using speed lights and radio triggers or sync chord to create studio style lighting using multiple speed lights.
Why such a buzz?
well the benefits for using speed lights really speak for themselves, they are easy to use, super portable, small and cheaper then traditional flash, so it’s a viable option for most photographers who can’t afford expensive studio equipment and the staff to carry it. But with that said it’s the first choice of many of the worlds top professional photographers for on location portraiture due to portability and quality.

I’m obviously a newbie, I thought the speedlite was the traditional flash, and the rest was the hard-core studio pro stuff for the pro pros that didn’t want to move into the 21st C without a struggle.
What equipment minimum requirement is there for the course? Personally I currently only have a MR14EX (for macro) and a 580EXII (for emergency). I note from Derek’s setup, he used his own Yongnuo multiple speedlites and transmitter. I could possible get either a 430EX and transmitter. But I’m more interested in seeing the effect, rather than just buying the gear first.
Thanks

Peter,
Although we sometimes use ETTL, generally our workshop demonstrates taking full control of our lights in Manual mode. Therefore ANY light can be used, regardless of brand.
Hope this helps.
Hiya, I’m interested in this workshop…but don’t have a flash unit. Which do you recommend to purchase in order to participate in this workshop.
Thank you.
Arlene
Hey Arlene,
You can participate in the workshop without owning a flash as we will provide them. If you are looking to get your own however we would recommend getting at least one flash of the same brand as your camera i.e. Canon, Nikon, etc. you will find out why on the class;) If you are unsure which to buy perhaps try renting one from http://www.benshire.com.au to see which you like. Hope this helps!
Yay! Thanks for responding to my question! I think I will go and buy one…which BAD BOY FLASH do you recommend for Canon EOS 400D please?
Thank you.
Arlene
You cant go wrong with a 580EX II
We will also be teaching how you can use cheap ebay flash off camera, so if you are thinking of attending one of our lighting courses the Starters Guide to lighting is a very imformative class.
We will run through the limitations of cheaper flash units and also the benefits for buying some of the more expensive units available.
So I would suggest waiting until after the course to make your decision.
We will supply all the gear you will need for the course
When and where will you be ruinning this workshop? Im based in Sydney and keen to partake.
hey Hannah
We will be running workshops in Sydney begining in the new year! Watch this space for details:)
